ich think the orchestral version is from hector berlioz...

Stimmt. Von Otter ist hier eine Offenbarung.

The orchestration is tremendous - I only knew Schubert's piano accompaniment before. And von Otter's performance is exquisite. Her facial expressions are perfect expressions of the characters of the lied.

I agree, for some reason I found myself afraid when I heard this, but it's still beautiful piece.

Avesome power and beauty rolled into one. God bless you Anne Sofie. And thank you for the joy you bring into peoples' heart just listening to your singing.

I think this works really well because the Erlkonig is almost effeminate, and the little boy should be feminine as well. However I think that Fischer-Deschua does a better narrator/father. But I have to say her Erlkonig interpertation give me nightmares.

a nice change over the classic baritone.

Nice arrengement. Who made it?

I guess the female singer is perhaps more versatile with the portrayal of the different characters, with gentle Erlkonig, calm father and son with hauntingly high notes. Nice alternative interpretation.

I agree, I prefer it on a male voice. But I'm also tempted to learn myself just to see how I can handle the differentiation in my voice for each of the characters. It's a good skill, and that's what makes the song the most fun.

i love this song, but it sounds better when a guy sings it :( she kinda looks like hilary clinton though doesn't she ??

Agreed.

whens that?

the best part of the whole song is when the winds take the cadenza...........it sounds so much more mysterious

Very powerful, continuous, intense performance. And I don't think there's any problem with a woman singing this. I've sung songs written for soprano and alto before simply because it was a song i really liked. The fact that this song is written from a man's perspective simply serves to give her more reason to delve deeper into the meaning and relate it to herself somehow.

thata is the best part of the whole leid in my opinion. to hear the erlking for the first time with her voice full of deceit, lets you know that that the boy's father should have believed his son.

OMG i nearly shat my pants init when she started singing ROFL l00000000000l
